Georges BRAQUE (1882-1963), Gemmail: Sunflower - The term Gemmail is a neologism invented by Jean Cocteau by the contraction of two names, gems (precious stones) and stained glass. The artists choose in their work a painting that can be transcribed in Gemmail. The gemmists in the workshop, glass craftsmen, work then according to the directives of the great contemporary painters like Picasso and Braque. The gemmist becomes to the painter what the founder is to the sculptor. The painter puts his signature on the Gemmail, original and unique work. Braque, will say: "If I was thirty, I would be the Gemmiste Braque" [text taken from http://georgesbraque.fr/armand-israel/] - Work certified by Armand Israël, Chairman of the Committee Georges Braque, Curator of the Georges Braque Museum and Expert of the artist (the certificate dating from February 2017 will be awarded) - Origin of the work: Acquisition of Antoine de Paris (Antoni Cierplikowski 1884-1976, famous Parisian hairdresser) with his friend Braque. Antoine will hand over the work to the current owners at the end of his life - Size: 87 x 100 x 14 cm
