To which a Traité-pratique des mines, by M. le maréchal de Vauban - à Paris chez Le Rouge, Duchesne - 1761 - In-8 of 128 pages and 36 double copper-engraved plates - ½ green bronze cloth modest, reuse of the plates of the half-binder of the time (unbound and broken spine, plates rubbed, very worn cuts and corners, detached and creased faux-title, rather moderate foxing, paper a little browned, 4 plates soiled with light stains ; 4 blank pages are missing at the end, but the text is complete and at the bottom of the last page is the stamped approval. A working copy, complete with its illustrations. Drystamp on the title and in the margins of the plates, and label on the upper back cover of an English library. First edition of this work retracing, in great detail, the maneuvers ordered in June 1739 by King Louis XV. Vauban's treatise on mines is illustrated by the account of various destructions carried out both in France and in the Netherlands / LISKENNE (Ch.) & SAUVAN - Bibliothèque historique et militaire, dédiée à l'armée et la garde nationale de France.
