Spectacular new image of Jupiter: Aurora, storms and clouds revealed by the Webb telescope

NASA. Jupiter dominates the black background of space. The image is a composite and shows Jupiter in enhanced color, with the planet's large turbulent red spot, which appears white here. The planet is strict with swirling horizontal stripes of neon turquoise, perwinkle, light pink and cream. The stripes interact and mix at their edges like cream in coffee. Along the two poles, the planet glows turquoise. Bright orange auroras shine just above the planet's surface at both poles. Here, this new image of the planet JUPITER reveals, with increased definition, auroras and extreme temperature and pressure conditions. The Great Red Spot, a famous storm so large it could swallow the Earth, appears exceptionally white here in these views, as do other clouds, because they reflect so much sunlight. The brightness here indicates a high altitude of JUPITER's mists over the red spot as well as the equatorial region. Numerous bright white "spots" and "streaks" are also probably cloud tops at very high altitudes of condensed storms condensed. In contrast, the dark ribbons to the north of the equatorial region have little cloud cover. This exceptional image comes from the Webb telescope's near-infrared camera.
